Surfing in the Olympic Games

Surfing has been proposed to take part in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, in Japan; and for the first time in history, looks like it’s going to happen.

The Olympics organization thinks that surfing is a global sport, more popular than most current Olympic Games, and also relevant part of youth culture identify with the surfers, who serve as inspiration figures, which represent Olympic Values. “Surfers are strong and positive influence on young people around the world” – Stab Magazine.

On the other side, there are some specialists and old school surfers who thinks that Surfing in the Olympics isn’t a good idea. They use to say that what moves the games is the money industry, and surfing is not that king of sport. Most of them has been making a strong pressure against that saying that Olympics are stiff, uncool and corrupt.

Although having influenced opinions about that, they mention a good point during their protests. To be a surf champion you must master giant and dangerous waves as good as smaller ones. And there is a big problem for the Olympics organization. Places without waves can be solved by waves pool, but what about the waves condition? The differences between waves? That’s why the world tour from WSL is so fascinating.
