In this project we are going to talk about basketball, a sport invented in the past centuries that is very famous nowadays worldwide. In Basketball there needs two teams of players. If you wants play this game you will need a rectangular field, and a basket or hoop is available to put the ball in the basket or hoop so try to shoot as many balls through the hoop through the game.
The backstage of history always bring us something curious, what is not different in basketball history.
For example, basketball was created because so people could be active during winter and spend it perfectly.
Although it was invented in the 19th century, this sport was only introduced and recognized in the first Olympic Basketball Game during the summer of 1936, in Berlin.
The canadian doctor called James Naismith, who created this sport in 1891, just wanted to keep his students active and warm during the hard winter times. Well, I think we could not expect that is would be so famous.
It is funny when it comes to our mind how basketball was in the past. A time where there were no big championships, neither incredible athletes or leagues, what is totally different from nowadays.
According to FIBA (International Basketball Federation), a world governing body for basketball, in the men's medal rank, the country who own more medals was United States and the country who own less medals was France; in the women's medal rank, the country who own more medals were United States and the country who own less medals were Cuba.
Basketball, during the times, has gifted us with great talents. The first famous athletes who rose and carried the sport worldwide were Kareem Abdul, Bill Russell and Larry Bird. Nowadays names like Lebron James, Kobe Bryant and Stephen Curry make history and become legends.
Women have always struggled to have their space in society. In basketball it was not different.
It all started with a physical education teacher called Senda, who changed the rules so women could play.
In a time were women could not even watch the Olympic Games believing that they could die, it was a huge achievement for them, centuries ahead, to rule the first women basketball Olympic Games in Montreal, Canada, in July 17 and 1st August, were the USA basketball team won two silver medal.
When we think about the world's famous basketball
teams, it always comes to our minds United States, Brazil, Cuba etc. But
there is something curious behind it: the country which basketball is the most
famous sport is Phillipines. They take it into a serious matter, playing any
where, at any time.
