Modern Pentathlon

INTRODUCTION

This mobility emerged in ancient Greece in 708 B.C. having Lampis from Sparta as it’s first champion. It was the most moble form of the ancient olympics games.
This sport is practiced by men and women or in teams.
Modern pentathlon consists for five different modalitys: swimming, fencing, riding, running and shooting. Each discipline is held separately, apart from the running and shooting, which are held together in a challenging and exciting combined event.
Competitors gain modern pentathlon points across each discipline, resulting in a handicapped start for the combined event. The winner of the competition is simply the first person to cross the finish line.
Modern pentathlon is the only Pentathlon GB sport to be competed at the Olympics.

HISTORY IN BRAZIL

The origin of the modern pentathlon is closely linked to militarism. In ancient Greece, the Spartans used the method to select the most complete and versatile soldiers. Inserted by the Greeks in the ancient Games, the sport had a prominent role in the dispute, as the winner of the pentathlon was considered the winner.
Pentathlon was introduced for the first time at the 18th Olympiad in 708 BC, probably by the Spartans as a method of training soldiers. It consisted of running the length of the stadium, jumping, throwing the spear, throwing the discus and wrestling. Pentathlon held a position of unique importance in the Games and was considered to be the climax, with the winner ranked as "Victor Ludorum”.

OLYMPIC MEDAL IN BRAZIL
The only Olympic medal in Brazil, Latin America and the Southern Hemisphere in the modern pentathlon is a bronze won by Yane Marques the olympics 2012 in London, UK, in the year that the sport has completed 100 years of the Olympic program.
The categories today are: Youth E - 09 to 10 years (swimming and running) / Young D - 11 to 12 years (swimming and running) / Young C - 13 to 14 years (swimming, shooting and running) / Young B - 15 to 16 years (swimming and combined "shot + race") / Young a - 17 to 18 years (fencing, swimming and combined) / Juniors - from 18 to 21 years (fencing, swimming, horse riding and combined) / Adults over 22 years (Pentathlon) / Veterans over 30 years (Tetratlo and Pentathlon). In the 2013 season, 120 athletes participated in competitions, the highlight is the pentathlete Yane Marques, current Pan American champion and bronze medalist in the Olympic Games London 2012. There are only 3 state federations: in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Ceara.

CONCLUSION

In my opinion, Brazil don’t have much chance to win the Modern pentathlon because here isn’t commom this kind of modality.
The most known and practiced here is the swimming.
