FENCING



The history of fencing at the Olympic Games comes since 1896, when the men started competing. At this times only people known by "masters" could compete. The women just started to compete in 1924, and nowadays both compete in team and individual events according by the category.
It is a strategic game, comparable to chess, but more than intelligence, it requires very fast reactions of the player. It is an energetic fight, but without losing elegance. It increases concentration and self-confidence. Today, it is practiced by children and adults of both genders.
The equipments used in fencing are: mask, jacket, platron, glove, breeches, socks and trainers or fencing shoes. Its goal is to touch the opponent without being touched. Its players use rapier, saber or sword to attack, defend and counterattack. Each weapon has its own peculiarities and rules.
The challenge of fencing is to touch someone's body with the equipment used by the athletes, and this competition on 2016 will happen at Carioca Ring 3. They promise to make a show that will challenge the speed of human vision. At the Olympic Games of 2016 there will be 10 competition tests. The first athlete from South America to win the gold medal was the venezuelan Rubén Limardo and this year Brazil has get a space avaiable with the male rapier team of Nathalie Moellhausen and Renzo Agresta. We should wait the results, but we already know there are many opponents from many different countries that will also fight to win.

Nowadays, countries that stand out are France, Italy, Hungary, Poland, Germany and Russia, as well as Cuba and China, which are the most recent.
