SANTOS CITY

Santos is one of the oldest cities in Brazil, so historic, but also cosmopolitan, port and ecological. Its settlement began around 1540 and the last left precious lagacies in big houses, museums and churches, especially the Official Coffee Exchange, landmark of the wealth of the city. Santos has the largest port complex in Latin America, built in the early twentieth century, great progress stage as coffee producer.

TOURISTIC SPOTS

  • Vila Bermiro: It is a soccer stadium and the particular stage of the Santos Futebol Clube, with the current capacity of 16, 068 people.




  • Museum Pelé: Installed in the Valango mansions, nineteenth century building that has suffered two fires and was completely rebuilt. There are also interactive space where visitors can test their skills with the ball and to compare them with the performance of  Pelé.




  • Square of Flags: The square is located in Gonzaga, an important area of the city, according to the attractions that it is concentrated, such as hotels, restaurants, bars, movies, and mall.




  • Aquarium: It has an area of 2000 square meters, 31 tanks of fresh and salt water more than 200 species of animals. It is a fun ride for children and adults.




  • Coffee Museum: Restored in 1998, today welcomes tourists and residents interested in learning about the history of coffee or taste preparations made with him at the coffee located just at the entrance.




  • Coliseu Theater: Ballet, orchestras and live muisic, as well as plays, home of classical ambiance inaugurated in 1897.




  • Tram: The route is 5 km and starts at Praça Mauá, through Valongo Station, Customs, Monte Serrat and many other sights in the center of Santos. The charm is a dress drive`s account of character and the tour guide that explains each of the points.




CURIOSITIES:

  • Surf was practiced in Santos, in 1934, for the first time in Brazil by North-American Thomas Ernest Ritcher Jr. The first Brazilian was Osmar Gonçalves, in 1939. Both surfed in Gonzaga's Beach;
  • Santos was the first city to celebrate the "first may", in 1885;
  • In 2015, Santos was considered the sixth city with better quality of life in Brazil;
  • Santos has the largest beachfront garden in the world;
  • Anybody imagines, but at the Continental Area it is possible to trail ecotourism an adventure sports. The regions is intense Atlantic Forest and have rivers, lakes and waterfalls.
